Good for you and the planet

At Milou Beauty, sustainability is more than just a buzzword.
It's a core value that guides everything we do. We owe it to our customers,
future generations and the planet to reduce our environmental impact wherever possible.

Proudly Plastic Neutral

Sustainability is one of Milou’s core values, we’re committed to leaving our planet in a better place than we found it. Which is why we have teamed up with Clean Hub to become Plastic Neutral.

What does Plastic Neutral mean? In short, it means that a company is recovering just as much plastic as it uses in its packaging. We remove an equivalent amount of additional, verified plastic waste from the environment.

From launch, we wanted to create packaging that was already sustainable. We accomplished this through our beautiful glass packaging, recycled cardboard boxes and compostable mailer bags. Unfortunately, we still have to use a small amount of plastic in our pumps to make sure our products don’t go bad.

As of April, 2024 we are committed to collecting 1800kg of plastic waste in the next 12 months before it enters our oceans. This is over 180,000 water bottles annually. The entire process is tracked through Clean Hub’s own Track & Trace technology, ensuring certified impact. You can follow our journey here.

Reducing our plastic footprint

The only way to solve the global plastic problem is to stop producing new plastic. So, we’re taking steps to minimise this.

  • All of our skincare packaging bottles are made from glass and our skincare boxes are made from recycled card.
  • All of our shipping materials are 100% recyclable, including our boxes and mailer card.
  • Our courier bags are 100% compostable.
  • We’re currently sourcing and testing 100% recycled plastic pumps to illuminate our current plastic pumps that are used for our serums.

We’re proud to lead with sustainability in an industry that has typically anything but. And were dedicated to continuous innovation that will allow a better tomorrow for our children.

Sustainable Sourcing

From the lush landscapes of Aotearoa, New Zealand to further afield, we source our ingredients with sustainability in mind. We carefully select suppliers who share our values, ensuring that our raw materials are always ethically acquired.

By prioritising ethical sourcing practices, we strive to minimise our ecological footprint while preserving the delicate balance of nature.

Our Products

Cruelty-Free & Vegan

Our commitment to sustainability goes hand in hand with our dedication to creating 100% vegan formulations. We don’t test on animals, however, we do test on our founders and friends! We believe that better skin health shouldn’t come at the detriment of our furry pals.

By leveraging the power of bio-active ingredients, we develop products that are effective, gentle on the skin, and aligned with our mission to protect animals and the environment.

Giving Back

We at Milou are proud to be working with Women’s Refuge as our charity partner. Women’s Refuge is New Zealand’s largest nationwide organisaton whose purpose is to liberate and empower women and children so that they can choose to live in an environment free from violence.

They provide a range of services which help protect women and children in violent home situations and assist them when they are ready to leave. Women’s Refuge work hard to raise awareness of family violence in the community, and are working towards eliminating beliefs, attitudes and behavior which perpetuate violence against women and children.

Women’s Refuge operates safe houses, where women and children can stay temporarily to keep themselves safe. A refuge worker will pick you up or meet you so that the location of the safe house remains completely confidential. You do not have to bring anything with you.

Milou donates $1 for every Give me the Gloss Beauty Oil sold in New Zealand to Women’s Refuge. This money goes towards purchasing safe nights for women and children who need temporary accommodation to keep themselves safe. Milou also jumped at the chance to provide skincare to the women staying at the safe houses and the staff that support these women
